No. of Painting Lots12
NotesThe catalogue of this sale contained just 92 lots, 5 of which consisted of paintings, 7 of drawings and 78 of prints. There was also a single lot of painter's tools and another of miscellaneous objects. The sale is supposed to have lasted more than one day, but the procès-verbal (AP) does not include a division by day, and given the small number of lots, it seems unlikely that the sale can have required more than a single day, certainly no more than two.

Johann Michael Baader (1729-1792) was a painter from Eichstätt in the frankischen Jura (Oberbayern) who was living in Paris at the time of his death. The procès-verbal describes the circumstances surrounding the sale of his property, beginning with the request of Robert Daudet, the engraver, to the expert F.L. Regnault Delalande on behalf of Monica Schleist, his daughter living in Eichstätt. The contents of the sale consisted entirely of the deceased artist's belongings in Paris, including sketches and paintings by his own hand as well as some by his French contemporaries. When offered for sale each lot contained a number of items, ranging as high as thirteen paintings in lot five to forty drawings in lot eleven. The prices were very modest, and most lots were bought by just two dealers, Bon-Thomas Henry and a certain "Louis." (B. Fredericksen)
