Sale Location | la grande salle de l'hôtel de Bullion, Paris, France | Seller(s) | Sallé, François from catalog: après cessation de commerce du Sieur Sallé | Expert | Paillet, Charles | Commissaire-Priseur | Chariot, Claude-Louis | Lugt Number | 9120 | Notes | François Sallé had a gallery in the Boulevard des Italiens, and his full name is found on an advertisement in the Journal des Savans for January 1821. His address had earlier been in the Rue Castlgione. As were many dealers, he is described as a painter and draughtsman as well as a marchand. His first initial is not found on this catalogue, but it does appear on Lugt 9056, where he was the expert and described as F. Sallé, peintre & négociant en dessins. (The sale had no paintings and so is not included in the database.) The present catalogue states he was quitting business, but he was obviously active until at least 1821.
F-788 from the following month is described as a continuation of the present sale. | Catalog Location(s) | BML [photocopy in Provenance Index Sales Files] Annot. with many buyers and all prices for the paintings.
