Sale LocationNo.21 Old Bond St., London, England, UK
Seller(s)from catalog: A Gentleman, recently deceased
from other sources: [John Smith]
Lugt Number9825
No. of Painting Lots87
NotesThe only extant copy of this catalogue lacks the first day, but evidently both days consisted primarily of paintings. The second day also included a few lots of frames. Nothing is known about the proprietor(s) except that one lot, no.64 by Ferg, was consigned by the dealer John Smith, and so it is certain that more than one consigner was involved. None of the paintings have been traced, but judging from the prices recorded by Smith in the RKDH copy of the catalogue, some of them must have been of good quality. The last lot, A grand Landscape with a Fall of Water by Jacob van Ruisdael, was knocked down for 100 guineas, and a Holy Family by Pontormo was sold for £75.12. Most lots brought less than £10, however. (B. Fredericksen)
Catalog Location(s)RKDH [annotations used in Sales Contents; photocopy in Provenance Index Sales Files] Incomplete, includes the second day only, pp.8-12. Annot. by the dealer John Smith with all prices for lots 27 to the end.
