NotesThe principal consignment was a group of watercolors executed by a variety of contemporary British artists illustrating Pennant's History of London. However, there were also a number of engravings, books, astronomical instruments and a few minor pictures. The title page indicates that everything belonged to an unidentified "man of science," but the auctioneer's (CL) catalogue reveals that a number of different consigners were involved. Most of the paintings belonged to a certain Richard Leigh Spencer, an attorney in Lamb's Conduit St. (B. Fredericksen)
