NotesRKDH has added lots 103-112. EBNP II has a note on p.1: "De Schilderijen zyn meest opgehouden." MBB has totals for each consigner, and identifies some of them.

[Preliminary notes by B Fredericsksen] The title page mentions only J.C. Pruyssenaar as a consigner, but his name is not found within the catalogue proper and it is unclear what belonged to him. He may well have been related to the dealer Roelof Meurs Pruyssenaar whose activity is recorded until 1804 and from whom J.C. Pruyssenaar may have inherited works of art, but there is no proof of this. None of the paintings in the sale can be associated witrh either man.

Taken as a whole the sale did not include works of great importance and prices were generally low with many lots left unsold. There is also a great deal of uncertainty about the identities of the consigners. although four of the extant catalogues evidently belonged to makelaars responsible for the sale and are annotated with the results as well as letters denoting the various consigners. These annotations are not always in agreement, however, and only the MBB copy of the catalogue attaches names to the letters, giving also the total receipts owing to each person. The consigners of paintings included: "A" whose name is not given but who can be identified as the dealer C.S. Roos, to whom only 4 lots of paintings belonged, but whose remittance, 3766.13 fl. was by far the largest, meaning he had probably consigned most ot the drawings as well as other objects. The consigner of the most paintings was "B" whose identity is still unknown. Since a very large number of his lots were bought in and were put up for sale anonymously in Rotterdam the following year, he may have been a resident of that city. However, a few of the unsold paintings in the present sale belonging to consigners other than "B" reappeared in the same Rotterdam auction, so this connection may be misleading. "D" was the dealer Jeronimo de Vries; "F" was a certain Schere; "H" is unidentified; "K", whose name is abbreviated as "Wed", is also unidentified; "Q" consigned 3 minor pictures and is not listed in the MBB catalogue, although there may be some confusion with "O" whose is identified there as "Mull", obviously another abbreivation; the letters "S" amd "S*" present the most problems; the former is probably the dealer Philiipus van der Schley, one of the organizers of the sale, and "S*" may be one of the dealers from the family Spaan, but this is not certain. The problem is made still more complicated by the use of S, S*, S** Sp, Sp* and Sp** in the LBDa copy of the catalogue which do not correspond with the use of these letters in the EBNP copy. It has not been possible to compare these two with the annotations in LBDa and MMB, so the results are incomplete. However, the letters used in the EBNP copy of the catalogue can most often be confirmed through other means, and appear to be compatible with the usage in MBB, so in general we have taken these as the most reliable. (In some cases we have recorded both of the EBNP and LBDa letters in an attempt to resolve the confusion with the letters S and Sp.) Finally, it appears that "V" is idenifiable as "Moll" since a few of his unsold pictures reappear under that name in later sales.
