Auction House | Christie's -- from catalog: Mr. Christie | Sale Location | [No.125] Pall Mall, London, England, UK | Seller(s) | from catalog: A Gentleman from auctioneer's copy: Arthur Champernown; William Buchanan; Sir Abraham Hume; etc. | Lugt Number | 7103 | No. of Painting Lots | 63 | Notes | The sale consisted of old masters supposedly belonging to a single "Gentleman," but the CL copy of the catalogue shows that there were three principal sellers: A.H. Champernowne, the speculator in pictures; Wm. Buchanan, the dealer and Champernowne's sometime partner; and Sir Abraham Hume. A few lots also belonged to the dealer Wm. Harris. Except for the early lots, which went generally for less than £3, the prices were high, and given the sources of the paintings, a number of important works must have been included. Nevertheless, it appears that Buchanan and his colleagues had once again set the reserves unrealistically high, and of the 63 lots in the sale, 41 did not sell. The most notable purchases were a Dughet bought by the dealer Panné for £241.10 (present location unknown) and an Albani Ecce Homo bought for £315 by the dealer De Bligny (also untraced). (B.
