No. of Painting Lots92
NotesIn addition to 92 lots of paintings, this sale included nine of lots of small statuary. The owner is given on the title page as the late Rev. Edward Cuthbert of Hatton Garden who had died in 1803, but the auctioneer's (CL) copy of the catalogue shows that he owned just less than half of the lots. Twelve lots belonged to Earl Bristol and others came from the dealers Winstanley and Woodburn. The individual lots are not described at length, and with a few exceptions the prices were generally below £10, although only 16 lots were left unsold. The highest price was £31.10 paid by Alderman Thos. Smith for a picture of Fruit and Flowers by Jan van Huysum consigned by Ld. Bristol, although the price indicates that it was probably by another artist. None of the paintings have been identified. (B. Fredericksen)
