NotesLugt lists this sale twice, in 1787 and 1788. The "Noble Duke" could be George Beauclerk, 4th Duke of St. Albans, d.1787.
"A catalogue of a capital and valuable collection of pictures, by the most esteemed Italian, French, Flemish and Dutch masters, selected with great taste, at a very liberal expense, the property of a gentleman, to which permission are added a few picture, the property of a noble duke, lately deceased...In the above collection is the most capital picture of beggar boys, by Morillio; two beautiful cabinet jewels, by Philip Wouverman; a very high-finished picture, by Mieris; an Ecce Homo, a most singular fine cabinet picture, by Aucustin Carracci; two small jewels, by P. Laura; a small Holy family, by Rubens; that unique performance by Mortimer, the signing of Magna Charta, &c. &c. Which will be sold by auction, by Mr. Christie, at his Great Room in Pall Mall, on Friday, the 25th January, 1788, and the following day."

CL II has an additional note: "Mr. Tassaert has given the above marks to the lots as General outlines". Some of the lots have what were thought to be reserve prices written alongside them, but this note indicates that they were used instead as a guide price.
