from catalog: Sir Andrew Fountain
Lugt Number418a

NotesThis sale appears twice in Houlditch: VAL I includes prices and the seller name, "Fountain"; VAL II does not include prices or seller name, but includes the auctioneer, "Cock." There are two distinct typscript copies, at CIL and RKDH, both presumably from the same copy with prices in the Houlditch manuscript. The seller is Sir Andrew Fountaine, 1676-1753. This sale apparently occurred when he moved from london to his family seat at Narford Hall. Several pictures were apparently bought in, because they appear later in the same collection. The Fountaine collection at Narford was sold much later by another family member, in 1884.
