NotesThe seller was the painter Jonathan Richardson, the younger, 1694-1771. He was the son of the more famous portrait painter, writer, and drawing collector Jonathan Richardson, the elder, 1665-1745. There was a major sale after the death of the father. The present sale could include some parts of the father's collection, but the son was also a painter and collector.

"A catalogue of the genuine and entire collection of pictures of Jonathan Richardson, Esq; late of Queen Square, Ormond Street, Deceased; Which (by order of the executor) will be sold by auction, by Mr. Langford and Son, at their house in the Great Piazza, Covent Garden, on Tuesday the 18th of this instant February 1772."
