"A catalogue of Mr. Boydell's, collection of drawings, in gold frames and plate glass, prints framed and books of prints, which will be sold by auction, by Mr. Christie, at his great room in Pall-Mall, on Monday, April 22, 1771, and the following day [...] N.B. The prints, after some of the following drawings, being not quite finished, they will be delivered to the purchasers at the time mentioned opposite each drawing, half to be paid down and the remainder on the delivery. [page 2] Mr Boydell begs leave to inform the Ladies and Gentlemen that are desirous of bidding for his Drawings, that this is the first Collection of the kind ever offered to the Public, and as the great expence and trouble attending such a Collection from capital Pictures, dispersed in various distant Places, may very possibly deter others from attempts of this kind; he takes the liberty of declaring, that was he ever so desirous of continuing this work, he could not now procure Drawings of equal merit, the Artists being employed in other Branches of the Arts more advantageous."
